Firefighters from Melville FD and surrounding jurisdictions responded to a building fire at the Avalon Court Complex.  Firefighters arrived with fire showing and quickly went to work attempting to extinguish the fast-moving fire.

It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control, but not before leaving nearly 100 residents homeless.  Smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles.   The cause of the fire is under investigation.
